1. Please introduce yourself.
hi!! my online name is lynx. i like to draw and usually include cats in my art ^_^ i also really enjoy music and playing videogames!
2. How long have you been making websites?
since 2021 maybe? i have a bad memory but it's been a few years. i have been on/off with it though.
3. And what got you into the hobby?
the first seeds were planted way back when deviantart was pre-eclipse era and you could put minimal html on sections of your profile. but i really got into CSS w/ windows93's myspace clone since i wanted to customize my profile, and i think i found out about neocities sites through there!
4. What kind of website are you most interested in?
i really like seeing other artist's gallerys and how they designed that page, as well as unique layouts that really push the limits.
5. What's your workflow? Do you plan your websites out thoroughly or do you come up with the design as you go along?
i make a bare-bones sketch in csp/my notebook/mspaint and go from there! there's some planning in the beginning but then i just sort of go along with whatever as i get further along.
6. Please link to your biggest inspirations.
i adore virtuagirl's (18+) theme and art, jbc (16+) also inspires me with just how competent he is with webdev things. espy.world (MA) is fucking amazinggg oh my god!
7. What's your favourite part about making websites?
i like writing the HTML :) yay. designing can be fun too but a bit stressful because im so indecisive.
8. And the thing you struggle with the most?
javascripttt u_u i wish i could understand it like at all. but i suppose i gotta keep working on ittt
9. Do you keep the same layout on all of your pages? Or do you use different ones?
different ones!! but i like to have a semi-consistent theme.
10. How confident are you with CSS?
decently... i can do most of the stuff i need by myself but i do lookup some more complicated stuff.
11. Do you know how to correctly use <dl>?
no ♡ but i can learn.
12. What is your favourite HTML element?
<details> is fun but i recently discovered the wonders of <svg>!
13. If you're making a new web page from scratch, what is the first thing you do?
kinda answered this in 5 ^_^ but i'll also look at pinterest for inspiration first thing

16. Does your website have a theme that you stick to?
color-wise yeah, but im kinda just doing whatever for the pages.
17. Are you more focused on content or design?
ideally i'd have a lot of content on my site but i get preoccupied with making it look good...

yup!! lynx.fail, which was previously fantasiz.ing, which was previously lynx.fail, which was Originally kittyrave.club. phew!
19. What do you think of nostalgia-focused or "retro" websites?
ehhh i don't know. i prefer fresher takes on web design. it can get repetitive.
20. Is your HTML valid? Do you even check?
i don't know and i don't check! it can't be that bad though LOL
21. What are your opinion on buttons and banners?

22. What do you think of button walls in particular?
i pretty much have one on my main index lol. i think they can be a good way to find other sites.
23. If you started over again, would you make something similar or completely different?
i basically start over every other day.. oops. trying to get out of that habit.
24. Are you envious of other people's websites?
i don't think envy is the right word, but i do look at other sites and believe i stand to try harder so i could achieve what they can.

vscodium!
26. Why do you use that one?
vscode is epic, this one has no telemetry.
27. Do you host your image files on your web server, or on another host?
hosted all on nekoweb and i don't understand why people use different hosts to begin with, unless they're like big mp3 or mp4 files.
28. This might not be relevant to you, but what's your opinion on the Neocities vs. Nekoweb debate?

29. How much server space would you estimate your main website takes up?
it takes about 12mb! i can't do estimates.
30. Do you keep local backups of your files?
always!

highly if it's done well, but i do appreciate simple websites a lot.
32. Do you stick to certain colours? Do you do that on purpose, or is it your subconscious?
yes and on purpose!
33. Have you ever thought about quitting? Why?
i have quit before, because i had no motivation from depression and felt like i wasn't good enough. i want to keep this up as long as i can though!

solitary. i'd like to make friends, though!
35. Do people in your real life know about your website?
my friends know my url cuz it's on my discord, and my parents know Of it but don't know the url.
36. Do you update your website very often? How often is "very often"?
not particularly? i'll get into periods where i work on it for a week or two but then take a few weeks off. i've been doing it more frequently though, even if i don't push the work i do.
37. And the overall design, do you change that much? Why or why not?
so so often because i'm so indecisive of myself and want to constantly improve AHH! but guys this is totally the last major update you gottaa believe me
38. Is your website more you-focused, hobby-focused, or outside world-focused?
me-focused i guess? i mean, with the blog and about page being the only ones done. i think it'll eventually be more hobby-focused once i get the other pages going.
39. Do you do web design professionally?
nooo. it's a pipedream of mine to eventually be at that level, but i'm kinda having a crisis of whether i want to go to college for it when i do eventually go back to school.
40. If not, would you like to? And if you're comfortable answering, what do you do for work?
i'd definitely like to, but it's a question of whether i'd be good or if it'd burn me out or not. right now i'm a barista.
41. Do you communicate with people by email very much?
not really, unless it's for joining things on the indie-web.
42. Some people reject social media and use websites as a replacement. Do you keep social media outside of your website?
i have instagram which i'll go on sometimes, and occassionally post my art online, but i haven't been really active in the past year at all.
43. How about instant messengers? Do you use a mainstream one like Discord or Telegram? Or something like Matrix? Do you avoid them?
i use Signal because a few friends do, as well as Discord mainly!
44. Do you listen to music while you work on websites? If so, what kinds of artists?
yes, and usually electronic music but that's just what i prefer in general. it's not really anyone specifically. sometimes jazz!
45. Do you keep everything you make on one website, or do you have more than one?
i'd like to make kittyrave.club a seperate website to have things about raves on there! but that's a future project.
46. On a similar note, do you keep to one topic on your site, or many?
many, i suppose? each page is like it's own topic.

yes, i don't really know how to have a persona. shrug.

noo it's hard/rare for me to make online friends.

yes! i don't really know what this is asking. it is how it is.

hosting your files off-site. when filegarden went down it was like indieweb's worst nightmare LOL

i try to use semantic when i can. i'd say it's a mix.

54. Speaking of, what's your preferred browser? Convince your readers why they should use it.
use firefox because it's not chrome.
55. And what OS are you on?
windows... 11.... *sob* *sob*
56. Do you have a strong opinion on that, or do you just happen to use it?
i don't particularly like windows, especially 11, but i've tried to switch to linux and it's just not for me right now. i have a surface laptop studio, so i needed to install it's own linux driver to get the touchscreen working. i also use clip studio paint which isn't available on linux. which i guess can be worked around, but i'll deal with that once i get a desktop.
57. Are your websites mobile-friendly?
i try the best i can to make them usable at least!
58. What are your thoughts on autoplay?
annoying. unless the website has an index that specifcally mentions it first/it overall enhances the experience.
59. What are your thoughts on webrings? Are you in any?
they're fun! i used to be in a few, but not now. i'd like to join some again eventually.
60. Do you have any web shrines? What do you like to see in that sort of page?
not yet! i like seeing people doing a different layout than the one that's used on the rest of their site, and i enjoy seing people's passion about a certain topic/thing.
61. Are your websites "cliche", in your opinion?
idk!

something colorful, but not overtly. with a lot of content to look through! i'm kinda striving for that content-wise, but i'm just trying to do my own thing.

just mess around with things, inspect sites but don't copy, and google is your friend!

usually strictly css files but i did use inline styling for this page actually LOL

like using iframes? i try to stay away from it myself.

never tried, never interested in it. if it works for you it works! but flexbox all the way

i guess right now i use a two-column layout on my main page? i don't think about it too much though.

sometimes, if there's something i'm wondering how they did so i can do something similar myself.

i prefer using flex instead. float can be too finicky

probably not. i'm too inconsistent for that.

i think it's a cool world that i wish i understood. i don't collect, though.

everyday baby! like a few hours.

older teens i guess. people interested in my art.

i've heard of it a few times but never looked too deep.

i tried eleventy once, it was very cool! i wanted to learn js to use astro eventually but never got around to it. i'm sure some day i'll go back to a SSG.

yess i think it's interesting and it's just another silly thing to put on my site. it won't be 100% accurate, of course.

yes, there's quite a few layouts i've lost but i archive them now. there's also quite a bit of art that's gone forever.

leave it up probably. might as well! unless there was like nothing on it. oops.

in the middle? i try not to be overly open about myself.

i will when i eventually upload my own art, but for now the images are small enough to not matter.
